Shaggy Ink Caps – Jessica’s Nature Weblog

Shaggy Ink Caps, often known as Shaggy Caps or Lawyer’s Wigs (Coprinus comatus). These are a generally occurring fungus within the UK and are edible. They’re greatest eaten earlier than the conical enclosed cap of the newly emerged fungus has opened up. The cap expands from beneath. The gills change color progressively from white, to pink, then black, previous to auto-digesting (they appear to show to black ink that falls away from the growing old cap. These specimens have been amongst many clusters that have been rising within the grass across the base of a tree at Kingston Maurward close to Dorchester in Dorset, 15 October 2021.
